I think this is one of those italian ripoff productions.

When you look closely you can see differences in the eggs, the back tubes of the "xeno" and the derelict.

I guess those differences are enough to avoid italian copyright laws.

Considering RAI belongs to Silvio Berlusconi it's no surprise they come up with something like that.

Just my take though.

Total rip off. Terrible CG and really uninspired designs. Kill it with fire :)
