Alien: Romulus 2 might still continue the Rain and Andy storyline.

New comments by David Jonsson suggest he and his android character might still be involved in the next Alien movie.

Alien: Romulus 2 might still continue the Rain and Andy storyline.

Alien: Romulus 2 was supposed to have begun filming back in October of 2025, but that never came to fruition. Fede Alvarez departed the project as director and last month, news broke that the director for A Quiet Place: Day One, Michael Sarnoski was in the running to take over. This month, a fresh interview with Romulus lead David Jonsson suggests the project might be gaining some traction finally...

David Jonsson as Andy in Alien: Romulus

Speaking to Collider, Jonsson responded to questions about his return as Andy in the next Alien movie. Jonsson didn't completely deny involvement, but did cryptically allude to the fact he isn't certain there's much momentum at all, either:

Whatever it is and whenever it happens, I can’t quite say.

Beyond that remark, Jonsson doesn't offer any additional reassurance that he's involved with the sequel. The remarks are certainly more reassuring than "I haven't got a call yet", but still – very little to go on.

Originally, Fede wanted to continue the Rain and Andy storyline following the conclusion of Alien: Romulus, but it's possible direction may have shifted. Very little information about the Romulus sequel has surfaced since it was originally announced over a year ago.

Honestly, as much as I loved David Jonsson as Andy, I wouldn’t be mad if they introduced a completely new storyline for the next instalment. I mean, what really are the chances of Andy and Rain getting themselves into more Xenomorph conflict if they’re not actively seeking it out? Highly unlikely.

You think they destroyed the pathogen (Z-01) along with Kay’s body before arriving at Yvaga?Would like to see this sequel and more prequels before AvP or Earth.

I could totally see a completely new standalone film but I wouldn't mind a direct sequel either, solely because of the wholesome chemistry between Rain and Andy alone. While the creative possibilities are endless in this particular regard I just can't see a replacement for David Jonsson's Andy. He stole the show in my book.

So people are leaning into the Romulus sequel has been shelved and replaced by a completely standalone film? I’m okay with that. I think multiple projects with different storylines isn’t a bad idea. If the next movie is actually continuing what Romulus set up, then it is reasonable to assume Kay’s body is in cryo and the remaining Z-01 likely stayed onboard secured. Those are still obvious live threads. The same goes for Rain and Andy. The idea that a sequel would move on from them does not line up with what Fede has said and not treating them like disposable characters. Based on the information we have, it makes more sense to view these elements as unresolved setup rather than assume they were quietly discarded offscreen. Hope we get some news on the 26th.
