bloody hell, there was way more answers than i thought, but no lol none of them are right

right so.. i said hercules was the right mythology, but i realised i was wrong, so i said the mythology that the name off the aircraft comes from is related to hercules as zeuss is to jupiter. which would make the mythology the name comes from what?

nope. spitfire isn't really a classical mythology name though is it now? ;)

technically a jet, but one of the first of it's kind. Zeuss as to jupiter is greek as to roman, so it's from roman mythology

i should say one of the first of it's class as opposed to kind, no need to go back to WWII proto jets

not thunderbolt, one of these did a flyover a couple of years ago at the farnborough airshow. I was on a rig about 10 miles offshore in liverpool bay and had a great view
