Sacrificial Engineer failed to create it's perfect race!

SAcrifice yourself to make a new race..... i doubt your face would crack a smile either,

You are lead skillfully, to assume this happened on primordial earth about 4 billion years ago. But did it? Scene 2 very cleverly reinforces the 'ship image' with a similarly shaped standing rock, but that could just be Ridley playing with you, couldn't it? You assume the character on screen is master of his own destiny, understanding the significance of what he's about to do. Is he? Or was he just told by his masters to go to the river, open the container and drink it. And he ALWAYS does what they say. And of course when it rips him apart, he's going to be a bit shocked by the experience. IF this is not pre-historic earth, it brings a lot of questions.... but there is a rather obvious solution to them, if you think about it.

WE simply dont know. Could be anything. Religious ritual without any logic reason? Some suicide like samurais like to do when they feel boredom? Is that the way how they give a planet life / dna? Is that earth? Could be anywhere and anytime. To me these engineers are not the engineers, they look like typical "factory-designed clones". White skin, perfect body. So what could THAT tell us? Well, maybe nothing? Maybe it all means something, maybe not. Maybe it leads us to a big truth, maybe not. You know what, i think the time when i loose all interest in this universe will come shortly. To many open questions, no satisfactions. Time for breakfast and coffee! Shit.

Ridley Scott from the first scene of this film is joyfully misleading us into all types of assumptions. Do you really think, that with two sequels planned he will simply tell us that we're being mislead, when it is his very deliberate intention to set us up for a big "a-ha! moment"? Or as Ripley says "Did IQs drop sharply while i was away?" (I mean that as a joke, no offence. I was also fooled on my first viewing of the film)
