Interesting idea. Hard to answer. Dunno Well if the engineers are in a matrix what does AI get from that ? Maybe energy ? Interesting idea but to what end ? Han said in enter the dragon: all civilisations worship power because it is the one virtue that makes all other virtues ppossible. So what does robots gain by ebslaving engineers ? Power ? If I can get a answer to the motivation of the AI's actions then I can naswer the question. Is it sentient ? What set morals governs it ? Thinking about smith in the matrix he considered humans a virus but how does a machine become a spiiritual being ? Wow but this a very interesting idea . Still I believe that an ultimate god being will be revealed or hinted at in p2. Wil it tolerate artificial intelligence if it doesn't serve the purpouise it created the engineers for ?

Necronom4 Yes I very much agree. It has all been done. And I am also tired of people chastising p1 for not being original enough. It is what it is and I am grateful for having a chance at exploring the sj race and the origins of the xeno.

@ Necronom 4 - So you are suggesting that the opening scene with the sacrifice could be a "virtual" dream lived by the last engineer connected to his cryo sleep pod ? I Like this very speculative idea even if I find it a bit crazy. The idea of the engineer being former slaves of god machines is quite seductive because this could explained their complete adn based technology - and the reaction of fear the last engineer had against David. He could represent the threat of the past synthetic beings... Kind of eternal cyclic history theme linked to Weiland'speech we've seen in the viral when he mentions Thus spoke Zarathustra.

@Oduodu, glad you like it bud! @granolaboy, no, maybe, I don't know! I thought it would be great if the sacrificial engineer is actually Prometheus himself. It's not a dream exactly, it's more like he's plugged in. Think about it. Prometheus is on Paradise enslaved in a tomb like structure, enslaved by the AI for being disobedient, chained to his rock. He is freed by Hercules, (Hercules might be like Lawrence Fishbun in matrix.) Basically, i'm thinking that the engineer in the opening scene, is like Neo, whilst he is walking towards the waters edge in the matrix, he is also, at the same time, enslaved in a cryo sleep like tomb, like Neo, on paradise. The sacrificial engy is about to be freed by hericles/Hercules. He is about to take the red/blue pill.

@Oduodu. Maybe the AI's have enslaved the engineers because of their spirituality. The machines may have evolved to WANT, the want now being more important than their needs. They gain spiritual enlightenment from the engineers. It's like a lifeforce. Then again it could just be for energy, that's also a good one!

@ Necronom 4 I can really go with the matrix perspective . Please permit me to throw some ideas at you, which I feel dovetail well into what you have come up with. I think you will see where I am coming from . I’ve hinted in past posts about ESP, or more to the point, the use of a technology to get into someones’ mind. We see at the beginning of P1 David invading Shaw’s mind. Now what if he had been tapping into the Engineers mind? The Engineer knew this and was not too pleased on meeting David.. After all David did seem to know a lot about the technology. Taking this idea a little further, I have always felt that there was more to the Xeno’s than meets the eye and that they might have evolved a form of ESP, that creates a link between technology and nature. Now here is a big what if. Suppose that the Engineers have the ability to tap into dreams over very large distances. Lets say they would be able to tap into the minds of the occupants of an approaching Juggernaut, and may have the ability to use that kind of technology as part of a defence system. OK, I hope your with me up to now cos this is where my thinking is up to. Did Weyland tell David to try harder because it was known there was an intelligence at work, because the dream technology on Earth had picked up communications from the Engineers cryo chamber. The big question would have been whether that intelligence would be AI, a recording, or a living being. Shaw was considered true believer, but where her dreams being transmitted to the Engineers cryo chamber. Getting to the point of the sacrificial Engineer, could that have been a dream transmission picked up by Weyland? Great thread.

I like the idea of esp. The human skull the human brain . Possibly telepathic ability as it can perhaops sense people before it can see them ?

Good stuff Batch! You've just give me an idea, well more of a rethink. I'm thinking of the part where Weyland is lying on the floor of the juggernaut, after being lamped by the engineer and davids head. Now, we can assume at this point that Weyland is dying from the blow. He say's "there is nothing," to me this suggests that he can see glipses of what is or what's not on the other side. Now, baring in mind that earlier on in the film he says, "Where do we go when we die? What is our purpose." Remember that whole speech? What if, WE are enslaved by the AI on paradise? Earth is our matrix and we are all in these hibernation chambers, on paradise, oblivious to reality. The engineers being the ones that keep us in line, they do the AI's bidding. Jeebus, one of them, another form of control. There is one rebellious engineer who chooses to fight for us and set us free. He is Prometheus. Prometheus, like the other engineers, can jack-in to the matrix, Prometheus jacks-in to protect us, whilst other engineers jack-in to keep us in line. Any idea's on where the Giger Alien fits into all this? Any idea's would be great!

Any idea’s on where the Giger Alien fits into all this? Keeping with the matrix theme, but with a slight twist. In the matrix, those who were plugged in could become agents. Suppose the Giger Alien worked on a similar principle. The Alien lives in the real world, but can have its mind taken over by Engineer technology, so that the Engineer mind remains plugged in whilst using the Alien to interact with reality. I know this also sounds a bit too Avatar, but with Avatar the controlling mind was not AI. Whereas this idea can be. Maybe Engineer technology is all about mind harvesting, and when the population of something gets too big there is no longer enough storage capacity. So maybe the reason the Engineers might have wanted to destroy mankind was a simple case of having a cull on minds because they just did’nt have the storage facility.

I think we might just have to wait and see what Ridley Scott is going to do instead of weird specualtion that undermines the whole thing.

You guys are basically borrowing heavily from other movies plots and characters.

@Batch, I like it! a lot! In the matrix, we see ampules/urns, but maybe, when in reality they are actually facehugger eggs.

@Anunnaki, all we can do at this point is speculate. It's also part of the fun. I really don't see how we are undermining it?

Maybe, in order for the engineers to get back to reality, they must disintergrate themselves. Maybe in reality, they are like the creature in the fresco.

I just don't see it guys. Are we also saying that Alien, Aliens and Alien 3 happened within this Matrixy framework? It's a movie about who made us and it poses these Huge philosophical questions. What a cop-out it would be to say it was essentially, all a dream!! Or the Engies trying to escape their 'not matrix, matrix'. This is just the Matrix in space. I don't think Ridley and Co. are that desperate yet. (Just my opinion) That being said, i certainly don't think it undermines anything or anyone to have some fun speculating a bit!! Still a fun thread either way!

Hi Fleshvessel. At this point it is just speculation, but what i'm proposing here is, well, what I believe it is all about and the direction that I would like to see the franchise go in. I appreciate that not everyone is going to like it, as it comes across as being nothing more than a big fat rip off. But, it doesn't have to be. How would you explain heaven and hell in a sci fi universe? How would you explain the big themes in Prometheus like, 'where do we go when we die? what is our purpose?' You must agree that being woke up in a nightmarish, Giger like hell, would be very scary? I don't think it would be exactly like the matrix. I'm just using the matrix as an analogy. It would be very biblical and mythical in it's concepts.

How do we get from Earth to Heaven/hell when we die? Do we get taken aboard the mothership? Or are we already there? I'm guessing that David and Shaw will have a lot of people to set free on Paradise.

Maybe Heaven and Hell are silly manmade notions to pacify the masses in the Prometheus universe. (Just like in real life) Many religions have a God and no Hell, btw. I'm not sure what P2 has in store for us; but i'm quite sure NEO won't be making a Cameo.

No I don't think Neo will be making a cameo because P2 and the matrix are two separate universes. Maybe he will in the next MATRIX film though?

If you're trying to explain something complicated, I think it's best to use something else as an analogy to articulate what you mean. In this case i'm using the matrix to explain what I mean. I personally think that Ridley (if he decides to make it) WILL want to explore the concept of heaven and hell in P2. It is possible that he will go down this matrixy route, just as possible as anybody elses idea's/concepts.

Purgatory: Place or state of temporary suffering. Place where souls undergo punishment for their sins before being admitted to heaven. Maybe the facehuggers put their victims into a state of purgatory/suffering, before the victim dies from the chestbursting? Remember when Kane awakes after the facehugger event, and he says that he had this horrible dream that he was drowning? Could this mean that, while he was in the coma like state, he temporerally woke up in paradise, in his cryo chamber, filled with liquid? Maybe, when Shaw and David get to paradise, they will find 1 or 2 characters from the Alien universe in cryo sleep. Maybe they will discover David Webb (Morse from Alien 3) Shaw might even find herself there.

Um...yeah. I am aware that it's just an analogy. I was being facetious about NEO...smart-assness is my default setting. What i mean is that you are reaching with this theory, and that IMO, none of this is even close to the mark, nor will we be seeing any element of anything resembling The Matrix, Purge, or any other "Virtual Reality" besides maybe a flashback or dream sequence. The dude was seeding life, not awakening himself. The creation process, through sacrifice, is a prevailing theme in the movie. Mind control is not. I agree that we may see a version of "Heaven or Hell"- Paradise being the representative of the former...maybe the latter too. I see now that 4 other Matrix type threads have opened up... Flash to me cleaning my rifle... Where we go from here; i leave that up to you...

I respect your opinion Fleshvessel! But none of us know what direction it will go in! That's the only thing that's for certain at this point! However, there is nothing wrong with speculating, and the matrix perspective is just as feasible as any other suggestion, idea, or whatever :-)

Here's a question: Do the Prometheus virals mean anything? Like the Weyland 2023 speech and Quite Eye? Do they have any relevance to the film or are they just a bit of fun? The reason that I ask is because, there was a viral of, I assume, an engineer saying something at the end of a phone line. Remind you of anything? At the end of the Matrix?

Dude. The pieces fit because you want them to. The audio of an Engineer speaking is taken directly from 'The Engineer Speaks.' So if the entire Alien franchise has taken place in VR, then who actually came to real Earth and Really made us? Are the xenos only present in this VR? The Nostromo only believed they were mining, when they were actually sound asleep? So every time Ripley 'wakes up' she's still sleeping. Come on! I'm sure I'm not the only guy who would hate this so much!! (Except maybe Ressurection being a nightmare!) I have invested 69 viewings and a lot of time speculating; if this happens, i'll take the red pill and wake up from this franchise forever. (And never look back)

@Fleshvessel. How do you know? Do you know something about the whole Prometheus universe and where it's gunna go? Please can you explain to me what that 'Engineer Speaks' is all about. Can you explain what it means please? If you don't know what it's all about, then what makes you so sure that i'm wrong? Have you speculated about it's meaning and created a comment on this site about it? Have you speculated about anything regarding Prometheus and created a comment on this site about it? I believe that you're so fast to dismiss it, for no other reason than you hate the idea buddy.

Yes, i have. Hundreds, in fact. When you post your opinion online, people will have a reaction to it. Did you not want any feedback on these ideas??? Simply put, don't whine when someone picks apart your theories. I have posted a ton that some people probably thought were ridiculous, that is what this site is for!! So you posted your 'Matrix' theory, and i posted my thoughts on it. I wasn't rude about it and neither were you. This is an example of exactly what should be happening here!! Every time someone says "well, what about this..." This is an opportunity for you to strengthen your case. Anyway, IN MY OPINION, you are way off, but like you said, i'm not privvy to any info you aren't, so that doesn't mean i'm right.

If somebody posts a reply to one of my topics showing that they don't agree with what i'm saying, fine, that's what we do here. But I also have a right to reply to that reply, yes? So I don't know what you mean? In my previous post I asked you a few questions, that's all. It seems that every post I make gets either a lot of negative replies and they have had since I started coming to this site, so don't think i'm not used to bad replies, I've had my fill of 'em bud!
